You find Object A with a symbol, Object B with the same symbol, and a lock that wants a third piece. The skill is indexing: keep related items together and say shapes, colours, and words out loud. Speed here is mostly organisation, not IQ.
Ordering and sequencing
A set of items must be sorted chronologically, by size, by narrative beat, or by a hidden rule in the environment. When you see multiple similar pieces, ask: “What single rule could arrange these?” Test small hypotheses instead of guessing huge permutations.
Ciphers and encoding
Substitution ciphers, directional codes, braille-like patterns, or “count the letters” tricks are common. Look for a key nearby. A poster, a prop label, or audio. Before you brute-force letters.
Physical cause and effect
Modern rooms often hide tech triggers: place the right object, complete a circuit, align magnets, or step on the correct tile. If something “almost” reacts, you’re usually close. Re-read the environment for what changed (sound, light, vibration).
Meta-puzzles that connect threads
